Doris van Halem is Full Professor in Drinking Water Quality and Treatment at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands and a Visiting Fulbright Scholar at MIT D-LAB for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Doris is a civil engineer and obtained her PhD in 2011. Her research focuses on developing innovative and sustainable drinking water treatment technologies. She has worked on projects around the world, including in Bangladesh, Nicaragua, and Ghana. Currently, Doris is leading Delft Global Initiative’s program TU Delft | Water for Impact, which is aimed at stimulating water research in and with the Global South.

During her time as Fulbright Scholar at MIT she is working with the D-Lab: WASH course, providing guest lectures as well as supervising student design teams working on affordable water treatment solutions, including fluoride removal in the Rift Valley (Kenya).
